Monte Sant’Angelo Subway Station

A collaboration between AL_A and Anish Kapoor, Naples’ visually striking metro station blends sculptural entrances with raw, elemental interiors to create an immersive public artwork.

Over two decades in the making, the station is a key component of the broader regeneration of the Traiano district. It forms part of Naples’ renowned ‘Art Stations’ programme, which brings together internationally acclaimed artists and architects to transform major infrastructure into cultural landmarks.

Anish Kapoor commented, “In the city of Mount Vesuvius and Dante’s mythical entrance to the Inferno, “I found it important to try and deal with what it really means to go underground.”
