The inaugural edition of the Copenhagen Architecture Biennial is now open and will run through October 19, transforming the city into a dynamic forum for architectural dialogue and exchange.
Held under the theme “Slow Down”, the Biennial invites reflection on how society might respond to the challenges of rapid population growth, escalating resource consumption, and environmental pressures by reconsidering the pace of transformation within the built environment. Rooted in the concept of a “Great Deceleration,” the theme encourages a reimagining of architectural practice—one that emphasizes sustainability, resilience, and thoughtful engagement with the spaces we inhabit.
Featuring more than 250 events—including city walks, film screenings, lectures, exhibitions, performances, and harvest gatherings—the Biennial explores pathways to a sustainable future through architecture. Central to the program are themes such as adaptive reuse over demolition, designing for multispecies coexistence, nurturing new forms of community, and fostering a culture of care for the built environment.
