The 2025 Soane Medal has been awarded to Dutch artist Madelon Vriesendorp.
Madelon Vriesendorp co-founded the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in 1975 together with Rem Koolhaas and Elia and Zoe Zenghelis. Within the practice, she created surrealist, mystical, and often humorous paintings that supported the firm’s work, transforming architectural theories into vivid, memorable identities that made complex ideas more accessible.
The Soane Medal is awarded annually to an individual who has advanced and enriched the public’s understanding of architecture. This year, the honour is bestowed upon Vriesendorp in recognition of her enduring contribution to the field and the lasting impact of her designs, images, and paintings, which continue to inspire architects across generations.
