UK studio Zaha Hadid Architects has revealed the Grand Canal Gateway Bridge in Hangzhou — a sweeping footbridge that curves around three striking arches.
Scheduled to open later this year, the tied-arch structure will serve as the focal point of the Seamless City masterplan, which also includes new parkland, residential areas, and civic and commercial districts designed by the studio.
Spanning China’s historic Grand Canal, the world’s oldest and longest man-made waterway, the bridge connects to the Qiantang River, renowned in Hangzhou for its “Silver Dragon” tidal bore.
